Compensation: $65,000 - $80,000 per year

How do our Staff Accountants Drive Impact?
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for overseeing the company’s payroll accounting process and ensuring the accuracy of payroll-related data within the general ledger. This role is focused on the reconciliation of payroll data, managing the business-level accounting entries for payroll transactions, and ensuring proper accounting for payroll-related expenses and liabilities. The Payroll Accountant works closely with the Total Rewards and accounting teams to ensure accurate record-keeping, timely reporting, and compliance with payroll-related financial policies.

General Ledger Processing and Management:
Responsible for mapping and translating payroll data into the appropriate General Ledger structure.
Timely posting of payroll-related transactions after weekly and semi-monthly payroll cycles.
Collaborate with the Dealership Accounting Controllers to ensure payroll transactions are posted to the correct accounts.
Perform month-end accounting activities such as posting PTO accruals and Workers' Compensation adjustments.

Reconciliation and Reporting:
Reconcile payroll-related accounts between the general ledger and external payroll data (e.g., ADP, bank accounts).
Ensure accuracy of payroll-related accruals and liabilities within the general ledger.
Reconcile employer contributions, deductions, and benefit expenses to the corresponding general ledger accounts.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings for payroll-related accounts.
Review and prepare payroll import data regarding companywide calculations for incentives and fringe benefits
Prepare and present payroll reports for management, including labor costs, taxes, and other relevant payroll metrics.

Payroll Account and Business Entry Management:
Review and reconcile all payroll-related incoming deductions and employer contributions across business-level accounts.
Manage and ensure the accurate posting of benefit-related invoices and payroll tax payments.
Oversee the correct classification and accounting for payroll expenses, taxes, and employee benefits in the company’s financial statements.
Monitor and reconcile all intercompany payroll transactions and ensure proper accounting entries.

Audit and Compliance:
Assist in both internal and external payroll audits by providing necessary documentation and resolving discrepancies.
Ensure adherence to internal accounting policies and external regulatory requirements for payroll accounting.
Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal payroll accounting laws and regulations.



We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in payroll accounting or a similar role, with at least 3 years of dedicated accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and payroll-related transactions.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP preferred) and accounting software.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data processing.
  • Ability to manage sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional – CPP).
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with human resources systems and employee benefits.
